RE: Window Alignment

The two are not the same. BTDT. Can you rock the window guide when the
window is not in? Play here would allow the window to cock, mine doesn't
have much rock at all. Thin fingers and a open end wrench allowed me to
stick my hands up there to reach the bolts for the final tightening. (Had
to remove the window in the up position so I knew it could be done).
Regulator assembly were less than $20 at both junkyards I got them from.

Hi George,
The cable drum and drive are fine (and motor, sheaths, and all).
The right seemed a bit slow before repair. A new cable and it's
about the same. The left was smoother/faster than the right
originally, after repair now has the aforementioned alignment/drag
problem. I knew the first one seemed too easy, were the gods just
baiting me?

How did you run "them to the top before final tightening?" I can
only reach the bolts from the halfway position on down. A CGT/4k
difference? Track looks indestructible, the nylon guides on the
slider are same as before. Window guide itself seems immovable,
rubber/felt is firm.

I can't see what's happening exactly, the glass just cocks a slight
amount. Play in the slider must allow it, but I can't tell what's
the force behind it.

Someone was checking whether the CGT and 4k regulator assembly was
the same, do you know? How much/where did you get yours? Perhaps
it's fishin' time at the ol' salvage yard again.... --Gary

I have fixed both a CGT and a 4k, and both had alignment problems before I
just replaced the whole assembly with a good one from the local recycling
center. I tried to rebuild the CGT one, but the parts were too messed up
for repair (wheels all stripped). I knew how easy a fix was, so I didn't
bother trying on the 4k. On both cars the window bolted up to the
replacement with no alignment problems, just ran them to the top before
final tightening. I would suspect that the track is messed up on yours, or
maybe the guides have loose rubber. Which window is it?, I know where a
80,000 mile 86 4k is (but the Front Pass window regulator is in mine,
along with all the switches.)
