Resonator removal question

I am thinking about removing my resonator on stock exhaust system on '99.5
1.8T QMS this weekend. Has anyone does this? What are the
pros and cons? Please reply to this asap because I am seriously
considering doing this come this weekend. I was planning on installing
a straight pipe or maybe a glasspack.

The reason I am doing it is 75% for the louder exhaust note, 25% for the hp
increase.

Pros:
throaty sound!
small increase in hp

cons:
pop/mini backfire?
loss of low torque?
too loud?

Please help!
