the light did indeed stay on when the plug was disconnected from the coolant 
tank.
today i swapped the computer/autocheck control/clock (the unit in the middle 
of the dash) with the one on my other '86 turbo.  didnt do anything.   I will 
try swapping the whole speedo cluster with the one on my other '86 turbo, and 
see if that does anything..   any more things to check?  

Oh...and i just noticed something else on my '86 5kTQ.. the brake lights are 
not working (only intermittantly)  any ideas?

i just looooooove electrical problems...dont you????   NOT  :<)
