RE: I NEED A STRAIGHT ANSWER!
Unfortunately, the 4kq Bentley gives no gear ratios any where. And the cost
of buying all the Bentleys for all the cars that used the 016 transmission
is prohibitively expensive. So I think Robert is well with in bound asking
this list for advice.
Problem is, there wasn't just one 016 transmission. I spent the better part
of the afternoon going through the "Family CD" and there is a multitude
(understatement) of 016 transmissions out there. Final drive ratios include
4.55:1 4.11:1 and 3.89:1 and in passing I could have sworn I saw an even
lower ratio. Most (if not all) seem to have the 3.60 first and 2.13 second
in common though I found third can be either 1.46 or 1.36 and fourth 1.07,
1.03 or 0.97 and fifth 0.86, 0.83, 0.78 and 0.73.
One thing Robert, the ratios you mention for the 4kq only apply to the 6E
code of the 016 used in the '84 4kq (80q). In 1985 the 4kq used the US code
with a fifth gear ratio of 0.78. In July of '85 there is a part number
change on the fifth gear and whether it uses the same 0.78 or what I
suspect, a 0.73 ratio I can't say for sure. However, the 0.78 works out to a
21.5 mph per 1000 rpm and is just shy of the 22 mph the Colorado highway
patrol says I get with my '87 4kq. :-)
I suspect, the widest ratio you will find is the ADZ code from the 1991
200TQ as it has a 4.11 final drive with 3.60, 2.13, 1.36, 0.97 and 0.73
gears. It also has the tor$on center diff.
Anyone else with more info? I'd be most interested as well.

transmission used in the Quattros has the widest gears and what cars it
came in? Non-Torsen, center locking, 5 speed. Ratios would be nice.
Apparently the 016 is the one, but I'm not sure.
I have the ratios of the 4000 Quattros: 1st: 3.60, 2nd: 2.13, 3rd: 1.46,
4th: 1.07, 5th: 0.83. Final drive 4.11. This is what I have in my car.
Is there a transmission with a wider ratio?
