5000s Serious Steering Rack Leak
Got to the 5000s this morning and low and behold the hydraulic tank was
about a pinky down from max. Last night it was at the max mark. I had the
car in the garage for probably 4 hours while doing the window motor job and
I looked at the floor this mornming and there is a puddle of green Pentosin.
My sister being a smartie has some in the trunk so I topped it up for
safteys sake for now.
The leak is right below where the tie roads meet the rack. There are
rubber boots there which seem fine, no cracking or rotting visible. The
leak is underneath where my eyes can go for now though. What shall I do?
Is this a untaklable job for a rookie mechanic, I would bet yes. I can do
most little jobs.
She just had a new master cylinder installed as well, possible
connection? When the car came back from the shop in Boston the brakes were
finally good, but the odometer no longer works, and now a gigantic leak.
First time they worked on the car, installed a new bomb, they left a hose
clamp on the return line causing my sister brakes to seize up on the highway
at a toll booth. Another great Audi shop!
Thanks!
