Re: Dragrace tweaking of 5ktq. (long)
It is normal, that engines loose af few Hp when very warm.
The performance after a race is not the same as before, but after
some hours of cool down they regenereta.
I know this from some messurements taken on a 4-whell roll tester.
If the loose a lot -it may due to the knockingsensors retarding timing.
Messured a warm day I was messured to 245Hp @6.000 rpm instead of 277 -
and these messurements are normalizied to standard values of temp and
hight level. I have 260.7 Hp @ 5.500 just before knocking starts.
So a better intercooler - or a cold day.

Hi guys!
I have noticed that high temperature in the engine compartment cost me up to
one second 0-60mhp! I did a few 0-60 sprints whith the Gtech a few days ago,
outside temp was 77degF.
The first run was 6.18s, the next was 6.28, the one after that 6.43 whith a
real good start! The fourth run got me an 6.61s 0-60! The runs where done
with only a minute between them and the car was already a bit hot before the
first run. One hour later in the same temp, but after driving at 50mph for a
few miles, I tried again; 6.08s with a passenger!
The air filter get the coolest possible air where the oil cooler normaly
sits. The oil cooler is moved a bit lower and more forward.
The first thing I will do is of course to install an overide switch for the
injector fan and radiator fan to mininize the temp in the engine
compartment. How many amperes does the stock radiator fan consume?
When should the electric water pump run?
Does anyone know if the computer will cause any problems if I run a real
cool thermostat? I would like to get engine temp down to 160degF while
racing.
My shopping list contains: aftermarket EFI, intercooler, throttle body and
custom intake manifold.
Thanks in advance,
Jörgen.
