What I don't understand is why a combination
of driving the car forward, pulling it forward lightly
with the tow truck, and, most of all, folks pushing up at the
rear wasn't tried. I "fell" into a foot-deep dropoff with the
front of my 5kS last year (unmarked digging for sidewalk
next to n road surfacing, 3-point-turning to get out of that
construction dead-end after having been waved into it by 
a cop's frantic waving me "away" - I was concentrating
on him and didn't see the ditch while straight, and couldn't
see it over the hood while turning..).
Anyway, pushing the gas lightly while in reverse, holding the 
steering wheel straight, and three construction workers lifting
at the front, I was out of there in a few seconds - and this
was the heavy end of a non-quattro hanging over the
edge.
