Subaru vs. Quattro

Not exactly.... three years ago (when my wife's car was built), the
manuals were simply viscous coupling with a normal split. The autos are a
computer-controlled planetary-gear arrangement tied into the transmission.

I love stickshifts; both my A4Q 2.8 and my soon-to-arrive S4 are sticks.
But the Suby system in my wife's auto-tranny car lacks any of the problems
I've noticed in viscous systems such as the Volvo, Toyota, and stick Subys.
It's a very good system, and a bit smoother than the Quattro. I prefer my
Audi, but I have noticed that I can feel it sometimes, which is not the
case with the Suby. (The Audi handles better, much much better in snow
though.)
