I do not believe it can be done by "backyard" mechanics.  You need special
jigs, tools, and presses, etc.  And a selection of shims to ensure the
"stack" has the proper clearance when re-installed into the casing.

I broke the reverse gear and cracked the housing on my 88 80q a couple of
years ago, and was strongly advised against trying to get a new case, and
having it rebuild, even professionally, as it's a rare transmission to need
repair, and no US rebuilder has the needed tools and experience.  I bought a
used one, instead.
