Re: World's coolest CB

A CB on your quattro? How dare you! er, make that us. How about the
antenna, the most critical component? I've plunked my Wilson 1000 mag mount
on a few cars and found a great improvement over the cheaper antennas every
time. The thick, 5' whip has killed a bird and survived many low overhangs.
The heavy magnet hangs on through anything, just don't get your fingers
under it. And don't run your sunroof with it mounted on the roof behind it.
Cheaper mag mounts have blown off, scratching and denting. I keep a
circle of thin plastic under it to protect the paint. My CB is a small
Uniden 510XL, fits nicely in the front door pocket with no mounting. It
uses the same guts of bigger units, and a CB shop had no problem almost
doubling the output by pulling the limiters and tweaking pots. It's rugged,
the outputs can handle it. The whole thing comes out in seconds at the
airport or when I'm home from the highway. It's saved me much aggravation
from tickets, weather, deer, drunks, traffic, construction, etc.
