engine durability

geordie sez,.... I've heard that the I-5 Audi engine lasts forever, so what
would be the more appropriate reason for my ouil burning? 

geordie, both of my 81 4ks's with i 5's were bought for very few dollars and
each had been poorly maintained. on both of these the original rings were
worn down to the spacers and had to be replaced. the valves were pretty
good. i did the bearings and seals at the same time. the bores looked like
new though! regular oil changes are worth doing.
