This may not even apply to Audi xmissions but on the ole '76 Vega I used
to do the 3-4 shift (I think) without the clutch, to be cool, I guess. 
the result was damaging the tranny slightly (don;t remember what little
brass peiece people told me was broken, but...) so it would pop out of
third on it's own if I was just rolling along, ie in town at 25.

But I may have been doing it wrong.  Well, I was almost certainly doing
it wrong!
