Check the axle flange seals and the tailshaft seal for leaks. The input
shaft seal can leak, but you really don't want to go there.
The fill plug is a 17 mm hex socket plug located on the left side of the
tranny behind and slightly above the centreline of the axle flange. It is
important to remove the fill plug BEFORE draining the tranny to avoid an
embarrassing "I've drained the tranny and can't get the fill plug out what
do I do?" post to the list.
My '89-91 Type 44 Bentley shows the location of the fill plug and
specifies the amount of oil to be added for both the earlier and later 016
transmissions. The "official" fill level is below the level of the filler
plug, but it is OK to fill it to the filler plug level.
