The marking on the tire is opposite the tire's first
harmonic.

The valve hole on pressed steel rims is the rims' first
harmonic.  Does not apply to cast or forged rims.

If you match the mark on the tire to the mark on the rim,
you will minimize balancing problems.

On OEM tires, this can be a reflective sticker or paint, so
that automatic tire mounting equipment can see the mark and
match mount tires with rims.  This is also why you see some
plastic valve caps that are not black.
