Sounds reasonable.
Should I just put in a higher rated relay?
Or maybe the fan needs to be replaced.
I suppose if the bearings were on the way out, it could be drawing more
current than it ought to.  

I believe there are two relays for the fan...one 40 Amp and one 70 amp.
It's the 40 amp that's giving me trouble.
But it doesn't look like a higher rated relay will fit that socket, because
they all seem to have the larger connectors
I'll investigate further in the morning.
