Weird no power problem

There I was. Taking my next door neighbor for a ride in the 4KQ post new
wheel bearing (No thanks to NAPA) and t-belt/WP (thanks to Huw). We where
headed to my new favorite test road (Closed with an additional dirt
section).  In the past I told him about how fun it is to
drive--yadayadayada.  And we where just about to turn into the road when the
power died down to nothing. Couldn't keep the rpm's up but it did
idle(pumped the peddle a couple of times but it would bog a little). Slowly
made a U-turn and headed to a local gas station hoping it wouldn't die
completely.  Pull into the station - floor the gas a couple times and presto
magic the  power comes back.  Return to some spirited driving (like a fool)
and the problem didn't occur again.

I'm thinking something in the fuel temporarily clogged some widget???

Any ideas?
