Not true, the B4 Passat (87-95) had a transverse engine. The latest Passat
has longitudinal engines like the current A4 and A80/90.

I had a loan of a new A6 2.5TDi Avant when my A4 2.6Q was in for some
warranty work, what a car, just as quick and never less than 35mpg and
I wasn't sparing the horses ;)
