Dash lights redux

Maybe I'm impatient, maybe I hit the list on a bad day, but I'm still
seeking assistance on troubleshooting my dash lights, 90/90Q 20v. Fuse
blows, short only when the lites are switched on, indicating the circuit
is good to the switch. Bentley seems to indicate a light boosting unit
in the left side of the console, but it doesn't appear to be there.
Early build 90, maybe June of 89. No on board computer, no airbag, no
alarm. Sudden onset problem, rheostat new, all bulbs in dash good,
haven't pulled the lower instruments to ck for shorts in the wiring yet.
Any BTDTs?
I promise not to pitch a hissy, honest!
