Speedometer problem '865KCSQT - details
Thanks for the replys on this problem.
I began troubleshooting the problem with the speedo which was intermittent,
and
now not working at all. This is what I found so far.
I Followed Bently troubleshooting and have ruled out sender on the
transmission,
and sender wiring.
Performed the test to check continuity between pins 2 and 5 on connector A,
and
there was none. Bently manual says - fix wiring.
I was sceptical and did not want to start tearing apart the car to trace a
wiring problem.
Since I have two CSQTs, I pulled the cluster out of my '87CSQT Wagon. It
worked
fine in the Sedan. The Speedo from the Sedan did not work when I put it in
the
Wagon.
So I'm down to having some problem in the console assembly. I looked at the
URLs posted below(thanks Chris), but it was not exactly like the '86, and
'87
assemblys. looking in the approximate area shown for 200 model, and overall
tracing as best as I could using Bently diagram as a guide, I've found no
broken traces or obviously bad components.
Has anyone been through this problem before. is there something that can be
fixed if I proceed to take the assembly apart. It seems that the problem is
likely in the speedometer Guage itself, or something connecting to it I
can't
see without further disassembly.
I'll probably resort to buying a used console (anyone have one?). Is there
something fixable perhaps that I may have overlooked.
TIA for direct replys.

i have this prob in my '86 5kT.
i talked to Steinbru@vnet.ibm.com , and he told me to check out the TSB to
fix the speedos at:
geocities.com/MotorCity/5614
check it out. there may be a connection on your printed circuit board that
isnt soldered.
