Regarding Adam's search for a fan switch, Bosch does not, AFIK, offer
this part, although many others do. The ones I currently stock are made
by Thompson. I've seen INA, and commonly get Wahler. The part numbers
on the box for the 3 pin unit are "191 959 481 C" and "321 959 481".
Same part, 2 different numbers. Any GOOD foreign car parts store should
be able to sell you this from stock. The list price at VW is under 18
bucks, the parts store will probably be around 12 to 14.
You'll not likely find this at one of the chain stores, and if you do,
it's apt to be substantially higher. "Guaranteed lowest prices" don't
apply to anything you really want or need.
Tim Miller's smoking 4k. I suggest you simply unplug the O2 sensor.
Cheaper than buying one you don't need. If it solves the problem, buy a
new one. The car will run fine without it, assuming it will run fine at
all. If it's run for any length of time in this condition, you might
want to budget for a Cat. You might also check the legendary "spare"
fuse in the fusebox.
Hope these help! Kinda like a digest version of my replies. John
