I drove an 83 or 84 5K turbo diesel (with an automatic) as a loaner from
a dealer several years ago when my VW Fox was getting some warranty
repair. It was really kinda fun--you'd floor the car, count to 5 as the
turbo wound up and the car got into a lower gear, and then it'd push you
back in the seat (a little). Overall, a very interesting experience. I'm
not sure I'd want it as an everyday driving experience, but it was fun
as a change from the Fox. I'm sure there could've been something wrong
with it. . .
