Odometer + Speedometer '86 5000s Not Working

    I ventured into the dash of my sister's 5000s and the first thing that
struck my eye was a broken black plastic cap.  It holds a cable in towards
the speedo.  I assumed this was for the odometer since it was a solid
non-electrical connection, but it was connected exactly behind the speedo.
After reinstalling the speedo no longer works.  Now I assuming that cable
was for speedo not odometer and the cap was holding the cable on to the back
of the cluster.
    Then that leaves me thinking where is that pecky odometer cable?  There
a ton of electrical connections to that cluster, but only one solid
non-electrical cable and that one now has a broken plastic doohiky?  Anyone
know what's going on here?
