Wiper Arm Spoiler/Wing?

    What purpose does the little wing/spoiler on the driver's wiper blade on
some 90q20v's do?  I have a problem with my driver's wiper when I reach
speeds above 70mph it no longer stays in contact with the middle part of my
windshield.  Really annoying, specially on those high speed runs when the
bugs splatter.  Does this wiper spolier do anything to fix that problem?
