NAC: Volvo 240 starts and stalls

[No Audi Content]

My fiancee's '87 Volvo 240 DL (B230F engine) has decided not to run,
just before she was going to take it on a trip. The engine does start,
and it starts easily as always, but then it dies immediately, within a
second or two. You can repeat this process as often as you like. It
began doing this yesterday, and it's still doing it.

I haven't had such a problem on the 5k, but from following the list I
thought to check the fuel pump first. I didn't actually jumper the
relay, but I do hear the fuel pump running for half a second after the
engine dies, so I expect it's fine. A quick check of the spark plugs
showed them to be pretty dry and fine, which makes me think it's getting
spark. (It definitely is at first--I don't know if it's stopping.)

I poked around and found a cracked vacuum hose, which was easily trimmed
and reattached; that didn't fix the problem, though. And I found a
little grimy gasoline on the head at cylinder number 1, right below the
intake port (and its fuel injector), but didn't see any more coming out.
Leaky injector? Would that cause this problem? I believe it's a CIS
system, but I'm not sure.

One note is that it went to a car wash yesterday and began having this
problem shortly thereafter. I thought that any water-induced problem
would go away after a while, but a day later it still won't run. Surely
a lot of water didn't get in the tank...

I'm wondering if there's not enough fuel being supplied. Perhaps it
supplies enough fuel pressure for the engine to start, but once it's
running it can't keep up? I may try to replace the fuel filter and
check the fuel flow.

Any help would be very much appreciated.
