It is very easy to see if the car was built to CA emissions standards. There
is a sticker (usually on the hood) that list the enigine size, required
equipment & whether it was built to meet US EPA or CA
standards. If you have the sticker, they verify that at the DMV and you
don't pay the $300-400 penalty. Having a friend with the same color car can
be a benefit sometimes :>).
