re: Oil Pressure Sensor location on 12V 2.8V6

I've got a similiar problem with my oil pressure
sender (200Q 20v) which is located above the oil-pan
next to where the dipstick meats the block.

Does anyone know if falsely high readings on the oil
pressure gauge affects other areas of the car's
functioning?  ie does the ecu use the oil pressure
sender output to decide operating parameters or does
the oil pressure switch take care of that in the (3B)
engines.
