99 A6 Avant Brakes

Hi,
My 99 A6 Avant's brakes are making a growling sound which I can feel in the
pedal. I phoned the service people, they said it was "nothing to worry
about", that disc brakes can make that sound - it won't affect the
performance. One can get them (did they say...) polished, and Audi will do
that once under warranty. The service rep. told me that it would likely
return, then we would pay.

I've owned _many_ cars w/ disc brakes. NEVER have I felt embarrassed to
pull into a parking place until now. This noise began shortly after it's
7,000 mile service (unrelated, I'm sure). What say you?
