4kq clicking noise after oil change

Hi, this weekend I changed my 86 4kq's oil and filter.  Afterwards when I 
started the car there was a loud rpm dependent clicking.  The lifters have 
been quiet since replacement a few months ago,and the oil appears to be at 
the correct level.  The noise seemed to come from the upper front area of 
the engine.

More detailed description:

I tried a K&N oil filter just for fun, since I didn't have any of the 
official filters on hand.  It appeared to be the right size and everything.

I removed the oil temp sender and replaced the copper ring to slow a slight 
oil leak there.   I put the sensor back in with the metal tube on top, open 
end up, and spring in the middle.

I listened with the screwdriver to earbone technique to various engine 
areas, making sure to hit the temp sender and oil filter, and I didn't find 
anything.

Does anyone have a suggestion?
