Re: bobbing speedo

>My 87 5kcstq speedo at 153k miles bounces when it gets up around 55, and
is pretty good below that. My thoughts have been in the direction of
finding other ways to know my speed.

>So I use the trip computer when I want to know the speed, like when I
enter a school zone, or cross the boundary between a town and the country.
Lots of towns set up speed traps there.

>In case you haven't tried it, the computer displays your instantaneous
speed when you have the function set on 'average mph' (lower right corner)
and you hold down the re-set button for about 3 seconds and then let go.
The first number that pops up is the instantaneous speed, which then
changes into the average speed as the seconds pass.
>
>My other adaptation has been to clock the time needed to travel a mile at
various RPM readings, and I have marked my tachometer with pointy triangles
of colored tape at several of the key numbers representing typical posted
limits in various gears.
>
>The most useful is the one representing 65, because the speedo is bouncing
there usually, and the car goes to 70 and above so easily and smoothly that
it is very difficult to guess at the speed.
