Audi 100 A/C

You guys are a wealth of information. I'm glad I found this list
Anyway let me throw something else out into the fray. Like I said
yesterday, I own an 89' Audi 100 with a few quirks. One of these is the
A/C. From what I gather the climate control on the 5000/100 can seemed
to be possessed  sometimes so this problem is something I'm sure is not
new (but it is to me)
During this summers heat wave in NJ here the A/C in the car was a
Godsend. What happened though was that after I would start the car with
the A/C on AUTO, it would initially blow out all ports as needed.
Something would trigger it off as I was driving to redirect all the air
to come out the ports in the bottom of the dash. Sometimes it would
return to normal with the air coming from the front dash and the rear
seat area, sometimes it wouldn't. I tried to see if it was something I
was doing in driving but didn't come up with anything consistent.
Sometimes it would go crazy under acceleration, sometimes not. Then
again it would not necessarily go back to normal just because I slowed
down either. Anyone with a similar experience?? Solutions?
