Re: 200q parking brake now brakes help more

Hi Don;

    You mentioned in an earlier post that your caliper e-brake arm was
frozen 25mm away from the stop. Did you return it to the stop before popping
up the arm to clean it? I've never had one of the rear calipers apart, so I
don't know if popping the arm out 25 mm from the stop, rotating it to the
stop, and popping it back in may put the internal mechanism out of sync. If
this is what happened, you could try reversing the process - pop the arm out
at the stop, rotate it to 25mm from the stop, and pop it back in. Just a
guess here - I returned my arms to the stop before popping them out. Perhaps
a lister who has had these calipers apart can comment on the internal
mechanism.

    Operating the brakes with the arm that far off the stop may have put the
brake way out of adjustment. Try rotating the pistons into the caliper until
you have lots of clearance on the pads and then apply the brakes to set up
the pad clearances. If you haven't already done so, clean the rust and crud
off the pad contact area on the carriers and lube with high temp brake
grease.

Let me know how you make out.
