They are holding a track event in October at Summit Point Raceway (1.5 hours from DC) that should be just what you're looking for.

 

Much less rough than the SCCA!

I really want a chance to run my car through its paces on a racetrack, but I have never had the chance. I don't know where to get started, what clubs to join, what it will cost, etc...

What I am looking for is a club or place that is close enough to DC for an easy day trip where I can race my car around a real track at full speed, preferably with a friend on board. Something that meets every few months and isn't ridiculously expensive would be nice as well.
