Re: hose failure/s on a VAG motor. longish.
I had an oil cooler fail on an '83 Scirocco I owned. It was a very
expensive repair (I paid the shop to flush all the oil out with solvent,
this being their recommendation.) It cost approx $800US to get the car back
on the road.
It really sounds like your cooler has failed again. Maybe they installed a
used one? If you can get all the oil out of the water passages yourself,
you could do it cheap, I remember the part being around $100US. I'd replace
all hoses that aren't new too. My radiator started leaking following the
solvent flush and had to be replaced as well, so if you can avoid putting
solvent in it, you should.
