How do I get the seal back in the caliper?

Hey all,
I had my front brake caliper apart(88, 90), the bleed screw didn't want to 
come out till I broke it off, bottom of the screw is still in the caliper so 
I welded it shut and drilled a small hole in to caliper in a different 
place, welded a nut on and screwed a new screw into it, works fine but I 
didn't know how to get the MAIN seal back in the groove so it seats properly 
to keep dirt out of the cylinder...Question, HOW do I get the darn thing 
back in? it's acting like a real PITA..help!
