86 coupe GT I slowed for the toll...

I slowed for the toll today, paid and then pulled away.  As I left the car 
sounded as if it dropped all mufflers.  The idle is low and the car sounds 
like a racecar.  Car runs exceptionally well until now.  I was at work and 
got off late from work so I havent looked into it.   I drove from the toll 
to my workplace pondering what the heck it is..  Hope anyone can offer ideas 
to what it may be..  It is an 86 coupe GT comm. ed. TIA
