I got my handbrake handle out of a 4k w/ no door handles.  luckily I
remembered how the linkage works - and the linkage was still in place. 
Reach one finger in, push down.  type 44, different?  maybe...

besides, it's a junkyard, can't you open the window with the same wrench
that would remove the steering wheel nut?
