Haudi,

I got a few questions re my post about California's crappy gas. I got the
idea from Eliot Lim (PNW lister), so see him for the details (he has a very
through page, but the address escapes me; search the archives on "rocket
fuel.")

I ran out of gas three times on the way to the gas station, so I know all I
had in the tank was the 12.0 gallons of Chevron 92 ("With Techron," but no
octane!) that I added (at &$&@! $1.90, btw, and ***spare me*** the ROW
stories--I've BTDT, too). Noticed some knock (single-pass MC1 w/1.8 chip,
high-flow cat, ~140 PSI compression) at 4500 RPM and up. Dumped in half a
gallon of mighty-t (octane, 112-114 depending upon where you look). Helped,
but not fixed. Dumped in the other half, which helped, but still didn't
"fix." Oh, well, I guess I'm just glad I live at 2700' and can buy 94 gas
(well, it's 10% alcohol, but it NEVER pings), at least when it's not 110 dF
with the AC on and the light turning green . . .
