My answer to this question would be anyone that I made and conceived my self 
as you can be meticulous as needed or do what you just know will work.  I am 
in the process of building my own from mostly genuine Volkswagen/Audi parts 
from relays to wiring connectors.  The connectors to the headlamps and the 
gauge wires I am using are the only after-market parts I plan on using ohh 
and the wiring.  Using original AMP style connectors too.  Though time 
consuming this will assure me that I will know how to fix it if something 
does go wrong and that it is built to my standards.  This has taken 3 weeks 
already.

Right now the Beetle has the best headlights and looking at the wiring 
diagram for that car I know why DIRECT POWER and BIG WIRES. Even with cheesy 
sealed beams from GE they are brighter than anything else I own right now.
