Pulsating Clutch in 200 20V

my friend is having this problem with his 1991 200 20v. When you press the
clutch in there is a strong pulsating in the pedal. At first it only did
this at high speeds and felt fine when it was not moving( just started doing
it today) well now it does it at idle with the car not moving. There does
not seem to be any consistency to it. could this be a hydraulic problem, I
was thinking maybe the slave cylinder? a few weeks ago he noticed a bearing
noise maybe the throwout bearing I was thinking that it was related.
any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
