I assume that your ur-q still has the original engine and ECU installed.
If so, way back, when my 1983 ur-q still had it's original MAC02 ECU,
I installed an Abt dash housing and some extra gauges, turbo boost,
oil pressure and water temp. After reviewing the ur-q documentation,
I noticed that a water temp sender was located on the head and thought
I could double up on the temp sender signal and use it for the coolant
temp gauge. After doing this, it turns out that the temp sensor signal
to the ECU was grounding through the gauge which made the ECU
think the engine was cold and it responded with a fixed duty cycle.
Once I disconnected the gauge, the varying duty cycle of a warm
engine at idle returned.
HTH.
