smoking honda
so mike and i are driving back from davis, from hanging out
with tim. yes that car can pull 12 pounds of boost, revving
at a standstill.
anyway i drove us home, as i had someplace to be and mike's
record can afford no more citations. as always, i enjoy a
good sprint in a raced-out urq, even if it's not mine. he's
got better tires, anyway.
so in the rearview i see some swerving and zooming around.
as they approach my suspicions are confirmed: acura thugs.
ok, they are in hondas, but it's the same mo: east asian,
lowered car, big exhaust, 5 point seatbelts, nice paint
job. in the end, kind of the same thing as with a lot of
our quattro's, but more of a young scene, with cultural
and social overtones not seen in q-freak circles. i go on.
i give a casual slide into full boost and prevent the pass.
yes, i confess that when the road is clear enough, these
games are fun. eventually i sprint away, around 100mph.
there was a huge open space, no traffic, when i got to more
cars i cooled it down. of course, they went thru the traffic,
once they caught up.
i'll cut to the meat. 20 miles later, i was ahead. in the
rearview i see his car approacing from about a mile back. i
track it, he's doing between 80-100, pushing hard to catch up.
i slip it into 4th and wait - i am one lane away from the
fast lane. he's ripping up the lane, catching up. i am
probably at 75-80, he's at 100 or so, really peaking that
honda hard. when he's one car length away, i give it the
gas and feeeeel the booooost. he gets as far as lining
up our front bumpers before we simply pull away, hard.
i'm sure he has it floored. mike and i roar as we speed
away, having educated a couple more of the punks. i only
speed away enough to blow his mind at seeing a car that
can accelerate like that. we noted that about a minute
later they were next to us checking out the car. perhaps
the story of the four rings on the door of the car that
smoked his car will be passed on.
the funny thing is, though, and we laughed about it quite
a bit, was the racial/car thing. two blonde haired blue
eyed guys in a raced out german car, competing against two
asian guys in a raced out honda.
anyway, that' sthe report to from the front. direct all
flames to /dev/null rather than the list. yes we know
that speeding and speed contests are dangerous and stupid,
itr was an accident, really. a mistake. won't happen
again.
