RE: Ur-Q ... buyer's market or seller's market?
this is a difficult issue, and one which i have pondered for ages.
i have over $60k invested in a pristine, black, 2 owner ur-quattro with less
than 60k miles on the clock. it sits in the garage for most of the week
sulking, until the sunday drive where it's owner thrashes it over a hill and
back for an hour, then puts it away again.
silly really.
i could sell the car, make a considerable profit, and do something like buy
a nice big boat which we could use to catch the fish that are out there
waiting for me...
alternatively, reason tells me that there are cheaper cars which will
possibly match the driving experience of the torsen ur-quattro 20v, and that
more of these cars will become available over time. i could purchase 3
subaru wrx's for the money tied up in the ur-quattro, and throw them away
after 2 years each (par for the course with subies), and still have 6 years
of enjoyable motoring.
i have effectively got an asset sitting in the garage, but it not an
investment. why? because it's not for sale. not yet anyway.
at then end of the day though, emotion sets in. it is still my link to a
very emotive era of motorsport, to a revolution in vehicle design, and to a
clique with very few members around the world.
for those reasons alone, i would say to the usa members, "who cares about
the actual driving experience (good though it is), or that there are better
drivers cars out there, which are cheaper and more relaible?" if the above
factors are important to you, of course you should get an ur-quattro, the
best that you can afford, and never attempt to justify the costs to
yourself.

But what if it's that or nothing, as is effectively the case here in the
U.S.?
