New oil pump required?

The guy who runs the engine shop that is working on my MB engine block
reckoned that the old crank bearing shells showed signs of oil starvation.
I've stripped the oil pump and there is some (not much) wear evident on the
back plate. As the engine is in bits and it looks as though the access to
pump is fairly difficult (understatement?) with the engine in the car should
I fit a new one now?
