V8 Tranny dipstick and fluid level.

Was wondering if anyone can confirm the part number for the transmission
fluid dipstick for a 1990 V8 w/automatic.  I recently ordered a dipstick
from my local audi dealer (part #: 018 321 431D) and have just installed
it.  While checking the transmission fluid level for the first time
today, I am finding that the level doesn't appear to be even reaching
the end of the dipstick?  BTW, the car was up to operating temperature
after being driven over 30 minutes to work and was parked on a level
surface, engine runnning with the shifter in neutral when I checked it.
I want to be sure I have the correct dipstick for the V8 before I allow
full-fledged panic to set in over my tranny fluid level.  I recall from
recent posts that a lot of people in the past were guilty of overfilling
the V8 tranny. I just want to do a reality check with the list here
before I start topping off my tranny fluid level.  Any insight you can
provide would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance.
