86 4ksq wont run
helllllllpp!!
i'll start at the beginning.....
i was installing a new stereo in the car on tuesday.....
the car had sat since monday p.m.(ran fine) car was started and moved
slightly prior to
stereo install car was also started periodically during install--ran
fine--.
was finishing install and accidently touched stereo pos/neg.
together(antenna wire
was also attached to pos wire)
needless to say, this blew the stereo fuse(and the dash light
fuse(antenna curcuit?))
i replaced both fuses and completed the install. stereo, dash
lights,and antenna work
fine.....
car now does not want to start!!!! it used to start the second you
turned the key.....
the engine WILL start but only after extended cranking (3-6
seconds)
and it is NOT running on all cylinders.
the engine will not exceed 1800 rpm and the more fuel you pile
on,the more the
engine wants to backfire(fairly quietly) through the intake.
my first thought was a slipped timing belt(i checked the static
valve/ignition timing)
and it seems to check out fine.the engine will occasionally run on
all 5 cyl. but only
after it warms up some and only after backing off the fuel and
letting revs drop to idle
engine fires on all 5 as it descends.
i checked for adequate spark(screwdriver in # 1 sparkplug boot)
the spark was
very fat and powerful looking and was jumping approx 1 full inch to
ground!!
i am assuming that i somehow zapped something in the fuel system
(btw this is the
same 4ksq with the 4cyl fuel pump relay that i asked about the other
day it still has
the 4cyl part installed(dealer wants $80 cdn. and nobody else lists
it locally))
how (what) on earth could i have zapped??!!!! i don't hear a fuel
pump running
but then again,i never noticed it running previously......
static timing appears fine
spark appears very healthy
engine does not want to run!!......
(btw yes there is fuel in the tank)
the car does have almost new cap/rotor/plugs but does have
older wires....
the wires appear quite good(haven't electrocuted myself
yet!;-)))
hellllpppp!!!!!!!
