Clunking sound in supension

This will be a tough one to diagnose. Several listers have experienced
the same thunking or clunking sound occassionally in the suspension of
our 5k Audis. It usually occurs as we are turning and starting out
either in first or reverse. It always happens, without fail when
backing up in a turning moving coming out of the driveway, and right
after going over the small curb lip of the driveway--it almost never
happens in second, and virtually never in higher gears going straight
ahead or turning--so it seems to be related to putting initial torque on
the suspension or doing some initial vertical movement--that gives a
single clunk sound, and then it is OK. This sound appeared for both
myself and one of my Audi friends, after changing the front shocks.
Neither car had the clunk before changing the shocks. Everything seems
to have been done correctly, and the cars still track straight and
true.. Anyone experiencing the same thing? Any suggestions?
