My Audi broke its leg today, NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Today I was out looking for a tuner in my area when a rather shitty thing
happened to my little Coupe GT.
I went to pull into a parking lot to turn around while going about 5mph. As
I started to turn I heard a very loub BANG followed by the steering wheel
yanking itself out of my hand. It felt like a tire went down at first, but
it was way to mushy for that. Then as the car kept rolling I could hear a
very loud rubbing and grinding. I stopped the car and got out to see a most
discusting thing, the left front wheel was back in the fender. At this point
I knew I had to make it back into the lot so I gently slipped the clutch and
all seemed ok, until in the center of the lot it did it again. This time I
put the emergency brake on and shut the car off where it sat.
Upon further inspection I found I could move the front wheel forwards or
backwards about 6"(until it hit the front or back of the fender well). When
I got underneath the car it only got worse, the back of the fender was
folded and pushed back where the wheel hit it. As I looked over the
suspension I could see that the ball joint end on the A-arm was pulled out
of the bottom of the strut. I could also see that the bolt that used to hold
it in was gone, I'm assuming that was part of the crack bang boom when it
happened.
I'm very happy this didn't happen on the highway, and I'm glad that there's
only limited damage(the strut appears ok). I'm also glad I have dealership
connections who are willing to take care of it for me. At the same time I'm
totally P'oed about the fact that it DID happen at all. I was planning on
doing a mild restoration on the car once I got the money to do it, but as it
stands it will take me forever to dig myself out of the financial hole that
the car dug for me.
Later,
Will
