Re: Water injection, experience of aquamist on a GMC Syclone.
When setting up a www.aquamist.co.uk water injecton system on a friends
Syclone. We noticed that a 80/20 water/methanol mixture reduces detonation
more then only water. The methanol we use are a dragracing fuel and it is
rated at 135 octane, it could have some additives in it that give this
effect. The maximum recomended methanol/water mixture are 50%. As I have
reason to think that the CIS bottoms out at around 220hp the fueling effect
of the methanol is good. Methanol is however very corrosive and rubber dries
out in no time at all. One thing that you will not have to worry about with
methanol is running the car to rich, a slightly rich methanol/air mixture
does not reduce power.
The knock sensor we use with the Accel ECM in the Syclone are very sensitive
and retarded around between 4 and 16 deg during runs at 22psi before we used
water injection. With only water it retarded 4deg at the most, with 20%
methanol no retard has been recorded...
The Syclone on the www.aquamist.co.uk site is not my friends truck, check
http://syclone.tsx.org for some pictures of his truck, we think it is
Europes fastest Syclone.
