You're perfectly correct.

But          (rant mode on)
1) the way he "observed" me should be illegal
2) I have to spend many hours with court --2 already.
3) if a pragmatic plea to something else lessens the
   time, it will certainly cost me the stinkin surcharge.
Just another "no win situation" because justice is for making money now.
Arrrrgh!     (rant mode off)

Wish I could think of a shortcut --a free shortcut.  I may
plead with the officer (who is the prosecutor in NY), on the
side and try to work something out.  1st pass in person,
subsequent by phone (it's quicker).       Was it really NSBW?
