RE: Throttle Body Removal/Mods

Thanks for the info. No flame taken. I pretty much understand that the
Bentley is written for techs and people with access to a VAG1551 (or
whatever it is called). Saying that Bentley takes a lot of things for
granted is more a comment than a complaint. I do actually find it useful
though, in the end, for assembly drawings and torque specifications.

One question that I'd be interested in hearing your opinion on: People
mention a throttle body modification is a good way to improve low-end torque
on the 12V V6, and that Shaumberg (among others) offers to modify your
throttle body for $375 (or so). But, from looking at the throttle body, it
looks like any qualified machine shop could just bore out the primary intake
port on it with little problem. I can't imagine they would charge anywhere
near $375 to do this. So the question is whether or not you think this is
advisable to do or am I playing with fire?

Thanks!

The EGR passage goes from just inside the intake behind the TB to
the EGR
valve, removal is fairly self explanitory, the TB is held on with
4 6mm
allen head bolts and then several components attach to the TB but it
is
clear what needs to come off. Once the TB is removed, unbolt the
EGR valve
from the intake (2 10mm hex bolts) and pull the EGR valve back
1"-2". Now
using thin mechanics wire, Carb clean (make SURE it is sensor safe,
or
goodbye to both o2 sensors) and compressed air get all the carbon
out of
the passage. As the Brits say reassembly is reverse of removal. By
the
way the Bentley manual is a carbon copy of the factory manual so
when Audi
wrote the book they assumed they would by used by qualified techs,
why do
I mention this? I work in Service Training and Development for
Robert
Bentley, and am a certified Audi master tech (up to date as of last
week).
	 No flame intended.

	Daniel-
There is a post going around on how to fix a clogged EGR passage,
and it
appears to involve removing the throttle body. I plan on attempting
this
this weekend on my 95 A6Q. Bentley seems to be, as usual, very
sparse in
directions on how to do it, and just shows the exploded assembly
drawing.
Is there anything I should be aware of in removing this, or is it
pretty
obvious once I start taking off the covers and removing bolts,
screws, and
hoses? Thanks for any advice you could provide.
